The Irish Heritage Festival of PEI is the new name for the Tignish Irish Folk Festival. Since its debut back in 1999, the festival has continued to grow and the new name reflects this growth. The festival has long ceased to be just about a concert and has for years encompassed a more robust sampling of our heritage. The festival’s origin was a part of Tignish’s bicentennial and was seen as a way to promote the community and acknowledge its Irish heritage. The first festival was just an outdoor concert but over the years it continued to evolve. Now it contains a core group of annual events including the outdoor concert, a Common Ball Tournament, a golf tournament, an Irish breakfast, an Irish Pub and an Irish ceilidh. A new event or two is usually incorporated in to each year’s festival.
